El 6 de junio, nuestros estudiantes de Diploma 1 participaron del Debate Karl Popper con la presencia de estudiantes de Sexto, Octavo y Noveno Grado como parte de su formación para el Programa del Diploma; asimismo, recibimos a estudiantes del Colegio de Alto Rendimiento Cusco (COAR)  quienes nos acompañaron en esta enriquecedora experiencia de aprendizaje. 

Así, la ronda final del debate se realizó con la participación de dos grupos en representación de Ciencias Naturales y Artes debatiendo la siguiente pregunta ¿Qué es más importante: tener poder o tener credibilidad? siendo el objetivo de este debate que los estudiantes del primer año del Programa del Diploma puedan comprender cómo el conocimiento se construye a través del análisis de conjeturas y afirmaciones considerando el marco teórico de las áreas de conocimiento.

El formato de debate Karl Popper se utiliza para profundizar en diferentes temas académicos, permitiendo el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico, la tolerancia a distintos puntos de vista, habilidades de liderazgo, así como el fortalecimiento de los atributos del perfil de la comunidad de aprendizaje del Bachillerato Internacional (especialmente, buenos comunicadores, pensadores e indagadores).

El formato de debate Karl Popper ayudó a que los estudiantes:

-Enfaticen la tolerancia hacia diferentes puntos de vista.

– Fortalezcan el desarrollo del pensamiento analítico.

– Desarrollen atributos del perfil de la comunidad de aprendizaje del IB.

Por otro lado, agradecemos al Colegio de Alto Rendimiento Cusco por su visita y esperamos contar con su participación en las próximas actividades.

WE INVITED COAR TO ATTEND OUR KARL POPPER DEBATE 

Our Diploma students took part in the Karl Popper Debate on June 6, along with sixth, eighth, and ninth-grade students, as a part of their training for the Diploma Program. We also welcomed students from the Colegio de Alto Rendimiento Cusco (COAR), who joined us for this valuable learning experience.

The debate’s last round included two groups, one representing Natural Sciences and the other Arts. They debated on the topic: Which is more important- power or credibility? The objective of this debate was that the first-year students of the Diploma Program could understand how knowledge is built by analyzing conjectures and assertions considering the theoretical framework of the areas of expertise.

The Karl Popper debate format is valuable for exploring various academic topics. It helps to enhance critical thinking, tolerance towards diverse opinions, and leadership qualities. Additionally, it strengthens the attributes of the IB learning community profile, especially good communication, thinking, and inquiry skills.

The Karl Popper debate format helped students to:

– Emphasize tolerance for different points of view.

– Strengthen the development of analytical thinking.

– Recognize the value of teamwork.
