Como parte de la Cuarta Unidad de Indagación, “Dónde nos encontramos en el tiempo y el espacio”, nuestros estudiantes de Sexto Grado construyeron una yupana inca.

La palabra yupana, derivada del quechua yupay (contar), se define comúnmente como un ábaco o instrumento utilizado para realizar operaciones aritméticas y matemáticas, que se remonta a la época de los incas.

Se cumplió el objetivo de que los estudiantes ampliaran su comprensión del sistema de numeración decimal, para luego realizar las operaciones básicas: suma, resta, multiplicación y división con el material creado en cerámica al frío.

De forma intuitiva, los estudiantes descubrieron cómo construir números y realizar cálculos utilizando solamente la yupana que ellos mismos habían construido y algunas semillas. 

El enfoque integral de las matemáticas del Programa de la Escuela Primaria en Andino, motiva a nuestros estudiantes a poner en práctica diversos principios matemáticos en la vida diaria, para consolidar sus conocimientos y aprendizajes.

As part of the Fourth Unit of Inquiry, “Where we are in Time and Space”, our Sixth-Grade students built an Inca yupana.

The word yupana, derived from the Quechua yupay (to count), is commonly defined as an abacus or instrument used to perform arithmetic and mathematical operations, dating back to the Incas time.

The purpose of students broadening their understanding of the decimal numeral system was fulfilled, in order to then carry out the basic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with the material created in cold porcelain.

In an intuitive way, the students discovered how to build numbers and perform calculations using only the yupana they built themselves and some seeds. 

The comprehensive approach to mathematics of the Primary Years Program at Andino motivates our students to put into practice various mathematical principles in daily life, to consolidate their knowledge and learning.
