With great emotion we said goodbye to those who have been our students for several years at Andino Cusco International School. Lara Cripps, Tali Dewinter, Juan Hoops and Elsa Laura Verbeken have completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program with extended essays and independent investigations, Theory of Knowledge essays, art exhibitions, CAS projects for personal and community development, in addition to rigorous international examinations.

We are very proud of these young people who have exciting goals and plans some of which include education in Europe. We are confident in their preparation to face the challenges of the global world with confidence, as independent thinkers and caring to others and the environment.

Este año, los temas tratados en el curso de English B fueron relacionados a la igualdad de género y estereotipos, a la inmigración, a la importancia de la ética en la industria farmacéutica, a la tolerancia en diferentes contextos culturales, y al rol que juegan los medios de comunicación en la percepción de la propia identidad..

As part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, students must record oral evaluations that are sent to the IB international evaluators.

This year’s evaluations in the English B course focused on gender equality and stereotypes, immigration, the importance of ethics in the pharmaceutical industry, tolerance in different cultural contexts, and the role that media and communication plays on individuals’ perception of self.

Congratulations, Diploma 2!

Durante esta actividad, cada estudiante dispuso de veinte minutos de preparación de su comentario, en una sala destinada para tal fin. Al transcurrir este tiempo, se dirigieron a la sala de grabación, para llevar a cabo dicha evaluación oral.

Cabe resaltar que este comentario oral permitió desarrollar y fortalecer sus habilidades de autogestión y comunicación, así como el atributo de “buenos comunicadores”, lo que supone un aprendizaje significativo para su futura vida académica y laboral.

One of the IB Spanish A: Language and Literature course internal assessment requirements is for students in the second year of the Diploma Program make an oral commentary analyzing a piece of literature. This year our students commented about fragments of: “Twenty poems of love and a song of despair”, by Pablo Neruda; “The Tunnel” by Ernesto Sábato and “Maya’s Notebook” by Isabel Allende in a professional recording studio. During this activity, each student had twenty minutes to preparation their thoughts in a green room after which they entered the recording room to carry out the oral evaluation.

This oral commentary allowed them to develop and strengthen their self-management and communication skills, as well as the communicator attribute preparing them for their educational and professional future.

Además, como actividad especial, participamos en un taller sobre liderazgo y trabajo en equipo dirigido por Pamela Abdala, coach educacional, el cual fue tan bien dirigido que lo hemos replicado para nuestro equipo en el colegio.

The Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia held a meeting for high performing schools in Cusco which Andino Cusco International School was included. We were pleased that our delegation included Verónica Ugarte – principal, Zoe Gillett – IB Diploma Coordinator, Liset Peñaloza – DOP Coordinador, Romario Valenzuela – 10th grade tutor, and Gladis Vera – 9th – D2 Math teacher.  It was very helpful to learn about what each university has to offer our graduates, as well as modes of admission; we are now making sure our students learn about these options as well.

In addition, as a special activity, we participated in a workshop on leadership and teamwork led by educational coach, Pamela Abdala which was so well done that we have replicated it with our team at school.

Our students in the second year of IB Diploma Program the visited the community of Ccasacunca, located in the province of Anta, in order to learn about how they live and promote a cultural and educational exchange between their context and ours. As first activity, they will provide financial support for the community’s anniversary activities and encourage community members to conserve traditions and have a healthy lifestyle.
