Este viaje ya es una tradición de Andino que les es muy útil a la hora de elegir dónde y qué estudiar.

Our Ninth, Tenth and IB Diploma students had the opportunity to visit some universities in Lima last month.

This trip is an Andino tradition that is very useful when choosing where and what to study.

Durante el taller, Stefany explicó el tipo de educación que se ofrece en las universidades en diferentes partes de Europa, cómo los procesos de admisión pueden variar según el país y las lecciones aprendidas sobre cómo maximizar los años de secundaria para la universidad. Los y las estudiantes, así como el equipo docente, agradecieron escuchar sus ideas sobre este proceso y ayudar a otros a lograr sus propios sueños.

Fue grandioso ver a una estudiante de nuestro colegio continuar empujando los límites de lo que es posible y ser un agente de cambio, incluso entre nuestra comunidad educativa. Nos emociona seguir aprendiendo de nuestros graduados y nuestras graduadas en el futuro.

Our 2016 graduate Stefany Vizcarra held a workshop for our 9th, 10th, and Diploma 1 students about how to apply to universities in Europe. Stefany completed her first year at the Universidad del Pacifico in Lima, but discovered that European universities offered the type of education that best fit her goals. As a result, she started the application process only to find that it was significantly different than she had expected. Through her perseverance (as well as her capacity to learn whatever she sets her mind to) she was admitted to her dream program studying Political Science focusing on refugees at Leiden University in the Hague, Netherlands – and even received a scholarship!

During the workshop, Stefany explained the type of education offered at various universities in different parts of Europe, how admission processes can vary depending on the country, and lessons learned about how to maximize the high school years in preparation for university. Students and staff were very appreciative to hear her insights into this process and have her help others achieve their own dreams.

It was great to see one of our students continue to push the envelope on what’s possible and be a agent for change, even among our school community. We look forward to learning more from our graduates in the future!

This week Adriana Mejía, representative from John Cabot University, spoke with 10th grade, Diploma I and Diploma II students about the the possibility of studying at this American university in Rome, Italy. Thanks to the university’s admissions department recruiting efforts in Latin America, we were able to learn more about what the university has to offer as well as what the experience of studying and living in Rome might be like. It was very gratifying to know that our students can access up to two scholarships to study at John Cabot University. In addition, IB Diploma graduates have admission and scholarship advantages as well as the possibility to gain credit for a semester of courses. At the end of the presentation, interested students received a brochure as well as Adriana’s contact information as she offered to arrange skype calls with families.

Our students from 10th grade as well as the first year of the IB Diploma Program were introduced to Carroll University (in Wisconsin) and the University of Wyoming via presentations from representatives visiting Cusco. It was exciting to learn about the academic and student life of these colleges. It was also heartening to learn our students could access significant scholarships making these universities a much more affordable options than one might think! Finally, while there were key advantages to completing the IB Diploma program prior to attending, it was good to know that students could also apply directly to these universities after finishing high school. We would like to thank Juan Manuel Delgado, Education USA representative from ICPNA- Cusco for making it possible.  It is clear that our students are developing the important attributes and abilities that make studying at a US university a possible dream.
