As a part of the sixth unit of inquiry into “How we share the planet” focused on the following central idea is “Humans have a responsibility to natural resources”,  5th graders had the opportunity to visit the Piuray Lagoon. Here they connect with the natural environment of different species of animals, insects, and plants, as well as shared their research into the mythical origins of the lagoon and conducted interviews that resulting in key information about one of the most important sources of potable water of our city. Some of them even cleaned the shore demonstrating environmental conscience and care. Without doubt, a really rich and fun learning experience.

Disfrutando del aprendizaje han  observado lombrices, descubierto papas que servirán de semillas en la próxima siembra, han trabajado la tierra y medido distancia y cantidad sobre el terreno, entre otros.

Todo ello en una jornada soleada llena de diversión, en la cual compartieron sus loncheras y aprendieron nuevos juegos.

In their final visit for the year, the 1st graders students were able to organize, work as a team and collaborate with the project to build a vegetable garden. The IB Primary Years Program promotes certain attitudes, including cooperation and curiosity. It has been very enriching to appreciate the environment that surrounds us and to learn from nature.

Their fun learning activities included observing worms, discovering potatoes that will serve as seeds in the next planting, working the land, and measuring the distance and quantity on the ground, among others.

All this on a sunny day full of fun, in which they shared their lunch boxes and learned new games.

Nuestros y nuestras estudiantes de Noveno, Décimo y IB Diploma tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar varias universidades de Lima.

Este viaje ya es una tradición de Andino que les es muy útil a la hora de elegir dónde y qué estudiar.

Our Ninth, Tenth and IB Diploma students had the opportunity to visit some universities in Lima last month.

This trip is an Andino tradition that is very useful when choosing where and what to study.

This week we received the visit of a delegation of students and teachers from Markham College, and IB World School located in Lima, Peru. This delegation, along with a group of ANDINO students set up a library at 50121 school in Cachimayo. In addition to this CAS community service project, our families hosted the visitors enabling a profound and lasting connection. We hope to engage in more activities like this in the future.

In addition, we would especially like to thank the host students and their families as well as the Markham delegation for their visit, their friendship as well as their generous donation of books for our own library. It was a wonderful example of the benefits of being part of the IB community!

A group of students and teachers had the opportunity to visit the “Real Human Bodies” Exhibition that took place in our city. This educational afternoon was a very interesting opportunity for inquiry and expanded our learning experiences.

We had the pleasure of receiving the visit of Miss Talía, who returned for a few days to our city. It was a nice reunion with our team and, especially, with school students.

Our Diploma I students visited the exhibitions of the Cusco Biennial that were installed in houses and cultural spaces in the center of our city. We value the art community in Cusco, it is very important to all of us.

This week IB World School Markham College’s Outdoor Education work group visited us from Lima to discuss how we can work together in study trips that their students will make to our city. We love coordinating activities with other International Baccalaureate schools from Peru and around the world!

The third grade students made an inquiry visit to the Inca museum and Pre-Columbian art museum, as part of the closing of the second unit of inquiry. They were able to make connections with the research they did during the six weeks and what they observed in the museums. They understood  that before us there were other people and thanks to the vestiges they left us, we were able to study them and learn about their history.

The Peruvian singer Gala Brie, during her time in Cusco, visited our school to talk with our 9th, 10th and Diploma students about how to be an artist in our country. She shared her experiences as a singer, highlighting her performances with Katy Perry (2016) and Coldplay (2016). In addition she gave a mini concert singing her best known songs for everyone in our amphitheater. Thank you very much to her and Alejandro León for coming to our campus.
