Entre los problemas de investigación que nuestros estudiantes han elegido abordar se encuentra: ¿De qué manera la cultura Nazca representa la simbología de la dualidad en sus cerámicas? (Artes Visuales); ¿Cómo diferentes estilos de enseñanza impactan en el uso del lenguaje? How do different teaching styles (traditional and new styles) impact language accuracy? (Inglés); ¿Hasta qué punto la asociación de cultivos Medicago Sativa – Menta Spicata influyen en el crecimiento de Menta Spicata en la ciudad de Urubamba? (Biología) o ¿De qué manera se podría desarrollar un proyecto que impulse las oportunidades laborales (culturales) y de desarrollo social de la población discapacitada en Cusco? (Estudios del Mundo Contemporáneo).

Para estas monografías, cada estudiante contará con un supervisor, el cual asesorará la planificación, indagación y redacción de estos trabajos de investigación.

As part of the preparation for the second year of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, last Monday, on February 21st, several students from this class visited the school, following all the biosafety protocols, to define and structure their Extended Essays; which are independent research works on relevant problems of their own choice.

In the Diploma Programme, the Extended Essay is part of the core and a mandatory component in which independent research of high academic standards is carried out.

Among the research problems our students have chosen to investigate are: 

How does the Nazca culture represent the symbology of duality in their ceramics? (Visual Arts); 

How do different teaching styles impact the use of language?

How do different teaching styles (traditional and new styles) impact language accuracy? (English)

To what extent does the association of Medicago Sativa – Menta Spicata crops influence the growth of Mentha Spicata in the city of Urubamba? (Biology)  or How could a project be developed to promote labour (cultural) and social development opportunities for people with disabilities in Cusco? ( World Studies).

For these Extended Essays, each student will be assigned a supervisor who will guide the planning, research and writing of these research works.

Dicho taller contó con las estaciones:

1.- La indagación en el Programa de la Escuela Primaria, 

Se compartió cómo se desarrolla el trabajo en la escuela primaria a través de las unidades de indagación, permitiendo así a toda la comunidad de aprendizaje conocer y comprender mejor nuestra filosofía con su participación activa.

2.-La Monografía en el Programa del Diploma del IB,

Tuvo como finalidad dar a conocer a todos los colaboradores, cómo la indagación desde la Educación Inicial, Primaria y Secundaria, es la base para que nuestros estudiantes lleguen al Primer año del Programa del Diploma con todas las herramientas para realizar trabajos de investigación de alta exigencia académica.

3.- La importancia del Formato APA,

Se realizaron diferentes actividades interactivas para que todos nuestros colaboradores pudieran practicar el correcto uso de citas (directas y parafraseo), insertar referencias bibliográficas, redactar de manera correcta la bibliografía y otras reglas que componen la rigurosidad y la integridad en los trabajos académicos, con el objetivo principal de colocar a la indagación como eje principal de enseñanza y aprendizaje en todos los Niveles y Programas educativos de nuestra propuesta educativa.

En Andino School, nos seguimos preparando para recibir a nuestros estudiantes y brindarles una experiencia educativa diferenciada, que forma ciudadanos del mundo y agentes de cambio.

As part of the training that our staff have been carrying out throughout the month of February, the workshop “Inquiry and the IB Extended Essay”, led by our Diploma Programme Coordinator, Bruno Vázquez, was a transcendental learning space for our team.

This workshop included the following modules:

1.-Inquiry in the IB Primary Years Programme, We shared how the work is developed in the Primary School through the inquiry units, allowing the whole learning community to know and understand better our philosophy with their active participation.

2.-The Extended Essay in the IB Diploma Programme,

It aimed to show all the participants how inquiry from Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education is the basis for our students to reach the First Year of the Diploma Program with all the tools to carry out research work of high academic standards.

3.-The importance of the APA Format

We carried out different interactive activities for all our staff to practice the correct use of citations (direct quotes and paraphrasing), inserting bibliographic references, writing the bibliography correctly and other standards that constitute the rigor and integrity in academic works, with the main objective of placing inquiry as the main axis of teaching and learning in all the educational levels and programs of our educational proposal.

At Andino School, we continue to prepare ourselves to welcome our students and provide them with a differentiated instruction experience that fosters global citizenship and agents of change.

 “Oráculo Matemático”, es un recurso educativo creado por Fundación Telefónica, en colaboración con la PUCP. Se trata de un aplicativo mediante el cual estudiantes entre 10 y 14 años pueden poner en práctica los conocimientos matemáticos adquiridos a lo largo de su formación. A través de este juego, los estudiantes conocen personajes históricos en el mundo de las matemáticas, entrenan sus habilidades y se enfrentan a una serie de retos de manera divertida en el aula virtual. 

En virtualidad se pueden usar herramientas que integran el entrenamiento de habilidades matemáticas con plataformas que estimulan la práctica de ejercicios.

As part of the Math course, the sixth graders had a learning experience that prompted them to be bold and informed virtually.

 “Mathematical Oracle” is an educational resource created by Fundación Telefónica, in collaboration with the PUCP. It is an application through which students between 10 and 14 years old can put into practice the mathematical knowledge they have acquired. Through this game, students meet historical figures in the world of mathematics, train their skills and face a series of challenges in a fun way in the virtual classroom.

In virtuality, you can use tools that integrate the training of mathematical skills with platforms that stimulate practice exercises.

As part of the CAS (Creativity, Art and Service) course, our Secondary students presented their projects to classes at the Primary Level.
In this presentation, and making use of various dynamics, they shared valuable information on the UN objectives addressed throughout the year, and also addressed the impact and importance of CAS projects in their daily lives and in the Diploma Program.
Our students at both levels reflected on how small daily actions of solidarity can make us agents of change.

Throughout the year, the Andino Virtual Classroom received various specialists, who gave talks and workshops to our primary and secondary students in order to offer a space for dialogue, reflection and inquiry.
Among these valuable visits, we highlight the participation of Visual Director Kevin López, who shared an exhibition on the documentary and mockumentary with eighth grade students. He explained the importance of some technical recording details, such as audio and light, as well as the creation process of a script that generates credibility and fluidity. This invitation was the result of a group project in the eighth grade, whose purpose was to make the importance of artisanal fishing in our country more visible.

Literature professionals Regina Contreras and Lis Arevalo shared an inductive workshop with 9th grade studets on literature made by women. In it, they addressed key concepts, such as gender and female literature, in order to reflect on literary texts and emphasize the participation of women and their contribution in this art in an equitable way.
We appreciate the visit of these specialists, and we hope to continue working hand in hand for education in Peru.

Nuestras invitadas al Aula Virtual Ángela Oroz, la Especialista en Comunicaciones ATFFS y la Bióloga Guissela Zans, explicaron las funciones y tareas de esta organización, cuya finalidad es la conservación de la biodiversidad, labores de rescate y conservación de fauna y flora silvestre, todo esto con motivo de celebrar la semana forestal nacional.

The seventh, eighth and tenth grade students received a visit from SERFOR representatives, as part of the Science & Technology and Biology courses, to deepen concepts and knowledge about ecology, ecosystems, sustainable development and resource conservation.

Our guests in the Virtual Classroom, Ángela Oroz, the ATFFS Communications Specialist and the Biologist Guissela Zans, explained the functions and tasks of this organization, whose purpose is the conservation of biodiversity and rescue and conservation of wild flora and fauna. This was on the occasion of celebrating national forest week.

We appreciate SERFOR’s visit to the Virtual Classroom and we hope to work hand in hand again soon, encouraging our students to be agents of change for a better world.

Descripción:

La obra simboliza transformación; similar a una mariposa, el colegio se compone de varias etapas, todas necesarias para una buena formación. Actualmente en el mundo existen tantos tipos de mariposas, que sería imposible clasificarlas. Como las mariposas, cada estudiante es único. 

El rompecabezas simboliza el desarrollo; el desarrollo que uno sobrepasa al educarse y cómo cada día se construye para formar un rompecabezas.

Obra: Reciclando plumas y periódicos

Descripción: 

Desde niña tuve una experiencia cercana en cuanto a creer en los cuentos de hadas y al igual que muchas figuras de la educación o psicología; como Bruno Bettelheim, considero que estas no solo marcan un antes y un después de nuestro aprendizaje y experiencias de nuestra niñez, sino también forman parte de lo que somos ahora. Ya que estos cuentos forman nuestra mentalidad haciéndola liberadora y más soñadora, también hace que desarrollemos aspectos personales como la creatividad y la imaginación.

Esta fue la razón principal por la cual decidí escenificar parte de estas historias, de manera creativa, tocando una rama de la educación poco común y no muy tomada en cuenta al crecer.

Descripción:

Mun-an insa es una palabra en coreano que significa “recuerdos”; mi obra artística se basa en la educación antes de la pandemia y la educación en pandemia, ya sea el hecho de vestimenta o espacio, quiero demostrar las diferentes situaciones de cómo estudiar han cambiado de una forma drástica, un día estábamos con nuestros amigos y al dia siguiente solo nos sentamos y abrimos la computadora, y así es cómo antes nuestra vida presencial educativa se ha vuelto un recuerdo y algo a lo que queremos volver.

Realicé este trabajo porque me pareció que era una linda forma de representar qué es crecer, qué es educarnos y sobre todo, florecer. Esto se puede tomar de muchos sentidos, pero en sí representa ese momento de una persona en el que está terminando el colegio y tiene unos cuantos logros, gracias a su colegio y familia se está construyendo como una persona culta, rica en atributos y valores.

Obra: “El tiempo a través de las letras”

Descripción:

“El tiempo a través de las letras” es una obra artística que se inspira en las etapas de la educación según el filósofo Rousseau y cómo es que el tiempo pasa y la educación evoluciona mientras el tiempo pasa. Mediante esta obra quiero reflejar mi gusto por la lectura y cómo es que los libros han afectado a mi educación desde que era muy pequeña yendo desde libros muy cortos, a libros más largos y como es que estos cambian mientras voy creciendo. 

El autor de “Emilio” narra cómo un niño debe descubrir qué le gusta y a partir de eso escoger las herramientas para saciar su curiosidad, es por eso que con esta obra muestro que es mi rubro favorito de la educación y cómo esta me vio crecer.

In the Art course, expression and creativity are explored as a means of non-verbal communication that allows our students to give a message to the viewer without the need to speak the same language.

The Tenth Grade students, as part of the theme “Expression and Creativity”, made a series of art pieces utilizing different supports or unusual materials.

This valuable learning experience began with the theme “Education”, as a means of preparation for the elaboration of artistic projects for the Diploma Program.

Description:

The work symbolizes transformation; Similar to a butterfly, the school is made up of several stages, all necessary for a good formation. Currently in the world there are so many types of butterflies that it would be impossible to classify them. Like butterflies, each student is unique.

The puzzle symbolizes development; the development that one undergoes when educating oneself and how each day is constructed to form a puzzle.

Description:

Since I was a child I had experiences of believing in fairy tales and many figures of education or psychology; Like Bruno Bettelheim, I believe that these not only mark a before and after of our learning and childhood experiences, but are also part of who we are now. Since these stories shape our mentality making it liberating and more dreamy, it also makes us develop personal aspects such as creativity and imagination.

This was the main reason why I decided to stage part of these stories, creatively, touching on an unusual branch of education and one not always taken into account when growing up.

Description:

Mun-an insa is a Korean word that means “memories”; My artistic work is based on education before the pandemic and education in a pandemic; be it clothing or space, I want to demonstrate the different ways that studying has changed drastically. One day we were with our friends and the next day we just sat down and opened the computer, and this is how before our educational face-to-face life has become a memory and something we want to return to.

Description:

I did this work because it seemed to me that it was a nice way to represent what it is to grow, what it is to educate ourselves and above all, to flourish. This can be taken in many ways, but in itself it represents that moment of a person in which they are finishing school and has a few achievements; thanks to their school and family, they are becoming a cultured person, rich in attributes and values.

Work: “Time through letters”

Description:

“Time through letters” is an artistic work that is inspired by the stages of education according to the philosopher Rousseau and how time passes and education evolves as time passes. Through this work I want to reflect my love of reading and how books have affected my education since I was very little, going from very short books to longer books and how they change as I grow older.

The author of “Emilio” explains how a child must discover what they like and from that choose the tools to satisfy their curiosity; that is why with this work I show that it is my favorite field of education and how it helped me grow.

Asimismo, realizaron operaciones matemáticas de decimales dentro de los contextos de su vida cotidiana. 

Bajo el objetivo interdisciplinario “Garantizar una vida sana y promover el bienestar para todos en todas las edades”, los estudiantes propusieron juegos de mesa relacionados a salud y bienestar combinado con ejercicios mentales de decimales, siendo audaces, reflexivos y pensadores.

The Seventh Grade students, as part of the Third Learning Unit in the subject of ​​Mathematics, worked on decimals, discovering their origin through decimal fractions and then representing them graphically.

They also performed mathematical operations on decimals within the contexts of their everyday life.

Under the interdisciplinary objective “Guarantee a healthy life and promote well-being for all at all ages”, the students proposed board games related to health and well-being combined with mental exercises of decimals, showing that they are bold, reflective and thoughtful.

Esta visita estuvo estrechamente relacionada con una investigación de nuestros estudiantes del primer año del Diploma, acerca de las ciudades Carbono neutral  en la cual analizaron los problemas que enfrentan y las metas que se trazan dichas ciudades para obtener este reconocimiento.

Nuestros estudiantes de Décimo Grado, quienes también estuvieron presentes, aprovecharon este espacio para adquirir valiosos conocimientos con referencia a ciudades sostenibles y los objetivos de la ONU al 2030.

En este contexto, y al ser Machupicchu reconocido como destino Carbono neutral, el biólogo explicó en detalle valiosa información sobre cada paso que tuvo este proceso.

Last week, the Andino virtual classroom received the biologist Wilberth Ataco Zuñiga, the Deputy Manager of the Environment of the Municipality of Machupicchu.

This visit was closely related to an investigation by our first-year Diploma students about Carbon neutral cities, in which they analyzed the problems they face and the goals that these cities set for themselves to obtain this recognition.

Our Tenth Grade students, who were also present, took advantage of this space to gain valuable knowledge regarding sustainable cities and the UN goals for 2030.

In this context, and since Machu Picchu is recognized as a Carbon neutral destination, the biologist explained in detail valuable information about each step of this process. 

We appreciate your visit and we hope to continue working together for education and research in Peru.
