In an English learning experience, as part of the Unit of Inquiry:

How We Organize Ourselves, and the topic/theme Cooperation and Solidarity, our fourth grade students proved to be reflective and good communicators, as they received the visit of our History teacher from the secondary level, who shared his knowledge about cooperative work in the Inca Empire through examples of the mita, minka and ayni.

At Andino, our approach to inquiry ensures that our students not only learn English, but learn through it.

In the month of November 2021, teachers in training at UNIVERSIDAD CATOLICA DEL PERÚ, participated observing our virtual lessons, which allowed them to

collect valuable information about Andino’s teaching work in virtuality.

We are pleased to have received valuable feedback including evidence of being a school that builds self-management skills, allowing them to be agents of their own learning.

Based on the observations of PUCP teachers, in a Mathematics class in the Fourth Grade and an English class in the Sixth Grade, they were able to show that:

Essential agreements are respected.

There is an atmosphere of trust and permanent welcome.

There is active participation of students

Bilingualism is applied to learn

There is collaborative work through strategies, reflection and synthesis.

There is assertive teacher-student communication

Students are self-regulated

We thank the PUCP and the teachers who were part of this observation for their comments and feedback, we hope to continue working hand in hand for Education in Peru.

Las obras en esta exposición son un claro ejemplo de que el arte es un medio de comunicación no verbal, el mismo que no necesita una lengua específica para ser contada, ni mucho menos para ser leída. Siendo audaces, los estudiantes expresan a través de más de 40 piezas sus mayores temores, ilusiones y sus sentimientos más profundos descubriéndose a sí mismos, en formatos bidimensionales, tridimensionales y técnicas mixtas, en las cuales han utilizado el arte como forma de autodescubrimiento y exploración del mundo.

El curso de Artes Visuales del Programa del Diploma anima a los estudiantes a desafiar sus propias expectativas y a desarrollar habilidades artísticas como parte fundamental de la formación integral del lB. Asimismo, este curso hace énfasis, no solo en desarrollar sus habilidades artísticas, sino además el sentido expresivo y el análisis artístico tanto de sus propias obras, como de artistas nacionales e internacionales.

On the night of last Friday, October 1, the students of the second year of the Diploma Program presented the exhibition: “Discoveries”, which was part of the Visual Arts course. this exhibition evidenced the process of aesthetic maturation of the artistic products of each student, from their perspective of the world.

The works in this exhibition are a clear example that art is a non-verbal means of communication, one that does not need a specific language to be told, much less to be read. Showing their boldness, the students express through more than 40 pieces their greatest fears, illusions and their deepest feelings of self, in two-dimensional, three-dimensional and mixed media formats, in which they have used art as a form of self-discovery and exploration of the world.

The Visual Arts course in the Diploma Program encourages students to challenge their own expectations and develop artistic skills as a fundamental part of a comprehensive IB education. Likewise, this course develops not only their artistic skills, but also the expressive sense and artistic analysis of both their own works, as well as national and international artists.

We congratulate our Diploma Program Coordinator, Bruno Vázquez, who was chosen for the third time to work as Official Examiner for the International Baccalaureate organization.

Our coordinator will review exams for the subject Spanish A: Language and Literature of the Diploma Program, for the exam sessions in May and November 2022.

By ensuring the rigor of these assessments, he will do this important work by reviewing exams from other IB schools around the world without knowing the identity of the students.

We congratulate Bruno for his perseverance and effort to be an agent of change and a citizen of the world, contributing to this important task with the International Baccalaureate Organization since 2019.

Andino School is the first Cusco School to offer two prestigious International Baccalaureate programs, which we have offered since 2015.

This period of virtual classes has allowed us to explore different ways of communicating, sharing and creating a great community.

The IB Diploma Program is a high-level educational program. It is designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical dimensions of students.

As part of the academic monitoring that we carry out at Andino, tripartite meetings and the delivery of feedback for the first trimester of the second year of the Diploma Program will be held today in the Andino Virtual Classroom.

In these valuable spaces, students, families and teachers participate, sharing information about the progress of each student, and thus establishing commitments for the rest of the academic year.

We are very happy to share with the community that our first-year Diploma student, Samanta Fernández Baca, obtained a scholarship for the UWC Building A Sustainable Future (UWC BASF) course from United World Colleges; In this course, young people will be inspired and guided to take action by implementing sustainability in their personal lives and in their communities. In the same way, there will be a dialogue on contemporary global challenges and collaborative thought about how to create a viable future for the sustenance of life on the planet.

We are sure that this experience will be very valuable for the academic and personal growth of our student; Likewise, it will be an opportunity to put into practice the attributes of the International Baccalaureate profile.

Afrontando retos
Durante la secundaria tuvo que superar diversos retos; con dedicación, trabajo y perseverancia logró mantenerse en el tercio superior. Luis habla sobre no interpretar los retos como problemas, sino como oportunidades de entender el entorno de una manera distinta; al lograr ello, surgen soluciones creativas para resolver problemas comunes.
Así mismo, ser parte de esta propuesta de estudios en su vida escolar, le ha permitido tener herramientas para su desempeño y poder ingresar a la universidad por rendimiento académico.
La etapa universitaria es sin duda todo un reto, pero Luis siempre se sintió preparado para afrontarlo, al manejar los tiempos de estudio de forma adecuada y dando lo mejor de sí, permitiéndole solucionar diversos problemas en variados ámbitos y contextos.

Nuevos enfoques
Con su próxima graduación, culmina su etapa universitaria; además, Luis considera en un futuro cercano expandir su campo laboral a distintos mercados en el extranjero. Siendo su objetivo final constituir su propia empresa.
Aconseja a los estudiantes de Andino tomarse el tiempo necesario para evaluar sus opciones y explorar sus talentos. “Las opciones son diversas, pueden mirar más allá de Perú, buscar programas o becas que les puedan interesar, armar un plan desde temprano, encontrar un role-model, seguir sus pasos y así llegar a donde quieran. La empatía, humildad y el hambre de excelencia fueron claves a lo largo de mi vida”, enfatiza.

Agradecemos a Luis por compartir su experiencia de vida, sabemos que el éxito de nuestros egresados se debe en gran parte a la exigencia académica, el enfoque en la investigación y sobre todo en la confianza que tiene cada estudiante en sí mismo.
