Las y los estudiantes del primer año del Programa Diploma del Bachillerato Internacional disputaron una emocionante final del debate modelo Karl Popper que terminó con un merecido empate. Ambos grupos de estudiantes participaron, presentando argumentos razonados y justificados, formulando preguntas que ponían en dificultades al otro equipo, así como expusieron refutaciones y contra-argumentos.

El tema del debate fue: ¿Qué forma de conocimiento produce conocimientos más confiables? Un grupo de estudiantes defendió la imaginación, mientras que el otro, el lenguaje. A partir de esta pregunta, se plantearon argumentos apoyados en fuentes científicas, literarias y filosóficas: desde la teoría de la relatividad de Einstein, hasta la concepción lingüística de Shakespeare, pasando por la filosofía del lenguaje de Heidegger.

Los jueces (compuesto por un grupo de docentes de Secundaria), conjuntamente con estudiantes invitados e invitadas de otros grados, ofrecieron un coloquio tras el debate, comentando las fortalezas de los argumentos, la organización de ideas y el trabajo en equipo.

The students of the first year of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program played an exciting final of the Karl Popper model debate that ended in a well-deserved draw. Both groups of students participated, presenting reasoned and justified arguments, asking questions that put the other team in difficulties, as well as exposing refutations and counter-arguments.

The theme of the debate was: What form of knowledge produces more reliable knowledge? A group of students defended that imagination; while the other, the language. From this question, arguments based on scientific, literary and philosophical sources were raised: from Einstein’s theory of relativity, to the linguistic conception of Shakespeare, through Heidegger’s philosophy of language.

The judges (composed of a group of Secondary teachers), together with other invited students from other grades, offered a discussion after the debate, commenting on the strengths of the arguments, the organization of ideas and the teamwork.
